Big Game Fishing
If golf isn't
the game for you, what about a spot of big game fishing? Fuerteventura is
widely reckoned to be one of the best areas in Europe for big game fishing,
and there are plenty of organised trips led by experienced local skippers
around the Fuerteventura coast. Shopping
Or
there is no shortage of other attractions on hand in the nearby town of Calete
de Fustes, where there are a range of shops, restaurants, a marina and sea
life centre. Across the road from the golf complex is a new commercial centre
with a large range of top quality shops, bars and restaurants set around beautifully
landscaped gardens. A multiplex cinema is situated next door offering new
releases in several languages. Watersports
Further
afield with the perfect weather, wind and water conditions, the opportunities
for watersports on the island of Fuerteventura are virtually unlimited. The
enormous variety of sealife make diving an experience not to be missed. A
dive centre is located at the port area in Caleta (1-2 km from the villas).
At most tourist beaches, you can find wind-surfing stations, jet-ski hire
and water-skiing. For the more adventurous, why not try kite surfing the new
watersports craze (based in Corralejo). The west coast of the island in particular
offers some of the best surfing locations in Europe if not the world. Every
year in August, the world speed wind-surfing championships are held in Fuerteventura.
Go on feel the adventure
...... Horse
Riding There
are several riding-stables that cater for horseback trekking around the island.
The Island's Beaches
The most popular
beaches are located at Corralejo, El Cotillo, Costa Calma, Cofte and Jandia.
Fuerteventura's beaches are also very popular with Europe's Naturists who
prefer to let it all hang out! A new 3km stretch of man-made beach will soon
be opening across the road from the golf course complex (approx. 1-2 km away).
The nearest current beach is in Caleta to the right of the port (approx 2km
away). This is a beautiful horse shoe shaped sandy beach, very safe and perfect
for the whole family to enjoy. You can also hire sunbeds and parasols for
the day at a very reasonable cost. Visit
other Islands For
those who wish to explore, the neighbouring island of Lanzarote can be reached
by ferry from Corralejo in around 40 minutes. It is well worth the trip. The
Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains), the heart of Lanzarote, are like
a moonscape. Many science fiction films have been shot here. There are more
than 100 volcanoes on approx. 50 square kilometres which arose during the
great eruptions 1730-36. In 1968, the region was declared a national park,
the Parque Nacional de Timanfaya. A team of camels take visitors on excursions
into this unique world. The volcanic island of Lobos, only approx.
6 square kilometres in area, lies off the north-eastern coast of Fuerteventura.
A day trip from the harbour of Corralejo is particularly worthwhile for walkers
and nature lovers. You can walk right round the island in around 2-3 hours.
From the old lighthouse on the island's northern tip, you will have a beautiful
view of the bays around the Punta de Papagayo of Lanzarote You can
day trip to most of the other Canarian islands by ferry from the capital Rosario
(10 mins by car) or the southern town of Jandia (50mins by car).
